NetApp DFM Installation: part 1

There is a great video on the installation here, which helped me during the installation. There is also this manual.

The first thing you need is to download the OnCommand. You need to know if your NetApp is using 7-mode (the old one) or c-mode (the new one, c stands for cluster). Mine is the old one, so I chose the option below.

10 choose the right mode

It has to be installed on Windows 2008. It does not work on Windows 7, which is fine as it’s meant to be a server. You can have 1 OnCommand managing multiple NetApp array. Double click on the installer and you’ll get this.

10 setup

Take notice that by default it’s calling home. It sends messages regularly, as you can see below. Notice it’s still using DFM on the notice below.

11 call home by default

For majority of case, the Express edition will do. I choose it as it’s simpler, and in my case I just need it as proxy for the Blue Medora management pack.

12 which edition to choose

Installation will progress. It says sql below, not sure if that means Microsoft SQL Server.

13 install 2

Installation is actually quite fast. You will see rapid messages on the dialog box.

13 install 3

At the end, it will say Completed. Click the Next button.

13 install 4

You get another installation, but this time around it’s quite fast. Overall, it’s pretty standard.

13 install

You get this at the end. Tick the check box, so it will launch the browser.
